Saints make Junior Galette a very rich man and bring back Robert Meachem

I step away from my computer and twitter for two hours and news blows up about the Saints. The first is that they will indeed carry 6 receivers on the roster after all. After signing Shayne Graham and releasing Ryan Griffin, the Saints designated rookie Khairi Fortt for IR with return and used the open roster spot to bring back Robert Meachem. That makes me wonder if Griffin and Champ Bailey might be part of this “roster roulette” constant turnover we’re seeing. Don’t rule either guy as being part of the Saints’ plans as the season develops. I could easily see Griffin added to the practice squad in very short order. Meachem is a great guy and I’m thrilled the Saints decided to bring him back, he deserves to be on this squad. Frankly, I’d like to see him in the gameplan this week over Nick Toon.

The Saints also had three players listed on their injury report. Marcus Ball is out with a hamstring injury, Erik Lorig is out with the same ankle issue, and Kenny Stills is limited with the persistent quad. Other than those three, who I believe will be all held out of the game on Sunday, the Saints have a completely healthy roster.

But the biggest news was a newly signed contract for Junior Galette for 4 years and $41.5 million. Galette was already named a team captain earlier this week and now he has a massive deal to go along with it to ensure he’ll be a Saint for quite some time. Galette exploded onto the scene last year with 12 sacks as a full time starter and big things are expected from the pass rushing specialist this year.
