Three things to ponder

1. Who starts for the Sacramento Kings?

We asked this same question before Sunday’s game against the Raptors, but it is still a huge point of contention.  Michael Malone promised to mix it up following practice on Monday.  The point guard, shooting guard and power forward positions are up for grabs, so don’t be shocked to see a new player at each of those spots when the ball tips off later tonight.

2. Will Jason Thompson or Derrick Williams hit a 3-pointer

Thompson and Williams have both worked tirelessly on their perimeter game during the offseason.  The duo have held spirited 3-point shootouts following practice this week, with each player showing a solid touch.  Thompson’s shot takes a slightly flat trajectory, but he has a quick release.  Williams is an incredible athlete, but he has struggled in the past with his balance as a shooter.  He has been solid from the corner and elbow and he every release looks identical, which is a huge improvement over last season.

3. Can Nik Stauskas build on a strong first outing?

Stauskas is a sharpshooter.  If his opening night numbers are any indication, the rookie out of Michigan is just what the Kings are looking for at the shooting guard position.  Stauskas finished with 12 points on 4-for-8 shooting and added a pair of 3-balls in his 26 minutes of action.  Coach Malone used Stauskas alongside Collison and Ramon Sessions in a three guard set late in Sunday’s game.  He needs work on the defensive end, but the future looks bright for the 20-year-old rookie.
