Sacramento Kings to play Boston Celtics in Mexico

Sleep-Train-4

For the second straight season, the Sacramento Kings will play a game outside of the United States.  The NBA announced this morning that the Kings will travel to Mexico City to take on the Boston Celtics later this year.  The game is part of the NBA’s Global Games series and is scheduled for December 3 at the Mexico City Arena.

“We’re honored to participate in the NBA’s Global Games,” Kings chairman Vivek Ranadivé said via press release.  “The ultimate power of sports is the ability to connect people across geographic, economic and cultural lines. As part of our NBA 3.0 philosophy, we look forward to connecting with fans in Mexico City and sharing our experience through social media and digital platforms with fans around the world.”

The Kings played a pair of preseason games in China before the start of the 2014-15 season.  It was a strong bonding experience for the team as they came out of the gate hot under head coach Michael Malone.  Coach George Karl sees a similar opportunity this season.

“International competition provides an opportunity for our players and staff to grow closer together while experiencing basketball in a foreign setting,” Karl said in the NBA’s announcement.  “We’re all excited about the trip to Mexico City and look forward to entertaining many great NBA fans in Latin America.”

This is the 22nd time the NBA has played a game in Mexico.  Tickets to the event go on sale April 24 and can be purchased at Mexico City Arena’s ticket booths, online at superboletos.com, via phone at 01-800-BOLETOS, or at any of the following stores across Mexico: Soriana, Farmacias del Ahorro, Blockbuster, Innova Sport, and Palacio de Hierro.
