Best Wins of the Sixers Season

Best Wins of the Sixers Season
Michael Carter-Williams played a prominent role in 2 of Philadelphia’s best wins of the season.

The draft lottery is just a few weeks away and soon Sixers talk will be dominated by possibilities for the future. Nevertheless, even in the midst of an 18-win season, there were some pretty good times to be had in the recent past. I looked back at the (admittedly small) pile of wins last season, and selected the 3 best. Here we go.

#3 – 1/28/15: Sixers 89, Pistons 69

You’re embarrassing, Stan Van Gundy. Get a real NBA team together and then come see us.

#2 – 1/9/15: Sixers 90, Nets 88

Nerlens Noel’s first career game-winner came during the Sixers’ best stretch of the season back in early January. Led by 20 points and 6 steals from Robert Covington, the Sixers hung in there with the eventual playoff-bound Nets, leading to this Michael Carter-Williams to Nerlens Noel dish in the closing seconds. ‘They’re finally learning to play together!”, we all thought. Oh, how young and naive we were.

Man, what a great weekend of Sixers basketball. One night after the Brooklyn win, the Sixers overcame an old-school 28-point effort from David West to win the contest on a Michael Carter-Williams driving finger roll with just under 10 seconds left. In addition to a vintage Tony Wroten performance, who tallied 20 points on 6-17 shooting and 9 assists (basically the ideal stat line for describing Tony Wroten to someone), this game further cemented the notion that the MCW-Noel core was on the up and up. Funny to think about now. Still, look how excited the guys were. Good times.

I can’t tell you how much I want the days to come when we can enjoy these type of wins without worrying in the back of our minds how they hurt the team’s lottery chances.

Any favorites of yours I left out? Let’s hear about it in the comments.
