United States Women’s National Team Approaching Women’s Friendly Record For Attendance

Fresh off their 2015 World Cup victory, the United States Women’s National Team will return to U.S. soil soon when they oppose Costa Rica on August 16 at Heinz Field, home of the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers.

It’s the first time the United States Women’s team is getting back on the pitch after the World Cup win, and supporters of the team are already showing they are going to show up in a big way. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that the game has already surpassed 40,000 tickets sold, which is already close to the number 46,037, the record attendance for a friendly in U.S. women’s soccer history.

According to TiqIQ.com, US soccer tickets have an average price of $46 with a get-in price of $7. Cheap airline tickets from Hipmunk.com can get USWNT fans to Pittsburgh from anywhere in the country. Enjoy the city of Pittsburgh for multiple days after reserving a hotel near Heinz Field, with rooms starting from $105 per night.

The match against Costa Rica is the beginning to a 10-game Victory Tour to celebrate their World Cup triumph. They face Costa Rica again three days later at Finley Stadium in Chattanooga, TN, followed by two appearances in Washington D.C. and Foxborough, MA against Peru and Brazil, respectively. The USWNT finish off September by facing Australia in Detroit, MI and Birmingham, AL, then have three October dates against Brazil and Mexico in California, Seattle and Orlando. The final match will emanate from Busch Stadium in St. Louis, MO.

All members of the championship team are expected to show up, but a few may be sidelined with injuries.

The capacity of Heinz Field is 65,000 and if there was a large late surge after already setting the U.S. Women’s friendly record, it would speak volumes to the impact the USWNT had on the country. Nothing may compare to the 1999 Women’s World Cup team that may have been one of the most influential in sports, but the 2015 squad may be pulling in as a close second if these high attendance numbers continue, even after the tournament reached its conclusion. Either way, U.S. women’s soccer is trending upwards right now big time.
