Victor Cruz says there’s an ’80 percent’ chance he stays with Giants

There was a time when Victor Cruz was the Giants’ celebrity wide receiver.

While it remains to be seen if he can regain that level of stardom, Cruz told USA Today that he thinks there’s an “80 percent” chance he’ll play for the Giants in 2016.

Cruz caught 82 passes and helped the Giants win the Super Bowl in 2011 and earned a Pro Bowl berth with 86 catches and 10 touchdowns the following year.

Then Cruz was injured in Week 6 of the 2014 season, and Odell Beckham Jr.’s unbelievable catches replaced Cruz’s salsa dancing as the talk of New York.

While working his way back from the knee injury that ended his 2014 season, Cruz suffered a calf injury that kept him out of action in 2015. That’s 26 straight games that he’s missed.

Cruz, who turns 30 in November, is due to earn $7.9 million in 2016. If he is in a Giants uniform next season, it likely will be at a reduced cost.

In talking with USA Today, Cruz didn’t offer any evidence to support that 80 percent chance. It was a one-line answer at the end of a Q&A. So Cruz’s future remains up in the air.
