Isaac Jordan receives top seed for Big Ten Tournament

Wisconsin’s Isaac Jordan will pursue his second straight Big Ten wrestling title as the No.1 seed at 165 pounds.

Jordan, who won the crown at 165 a season ago, was one of six UW wrestlers to receive a seed when the Big Ten released its pre-seeds Monday for this weekend’s conference tournament.

Johnny Jimenez (125 pounds) and Ryan Taylor (133) are each pre-seeded sixth at their respective weights, while Andrew Crone (149) received a No.7 seed.

Ricky Roberston (174) and Ryan Christensen (184) are each seeded eighth.

The Big Ten was allocated an NCAA-best 71 automatic qualifying spots for the NCAA Tournament on March 17-19 in New York City.

To automatically qualify for the national tournament, a wrestler must place within the allocated number of spots at his respective weight class.For example, the Big Ten is allocated seven spots at 125 pounds, so Jimenez must finish in the top-seven in order to make the NCAAs.

If everything goes chalk, four Badgers – Jimenez, Taylor, Jordan and Robertson – will qualify for automatic bids to the NCAA Tournament.

The remaining 46 at-large qualifiers will be announced on March 9.
