The Redskins likely will get to see if Kirk Cousins can do for a full season what he did in the second half of the 2015 season.
Washington placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on Cousins, according to Pro Football Talk.
Cousins threw 19 touchdown passes and two interceptions in the final eight games of the 2015 season. The Redskins went 6-2 during that stretch, including wins in their last four games, and won the NFC East.

Because it’s the non-exclusive version of the franchise tag, Cousins could negotiate with other teams. But if another team signs him, it would have to fork over two first-round draft picks as compensation.
Cousins and the Redskins have until July 15 to work out a long-term deal. If a deal doesn’t get done, Cousins will make $19.953 for a long-term contract audition in 2016.
