If You Believe In The Cardinals, You Could Make Some Money

The last round of odds before the regular season starts have been released in Las Vegas. The Cardinals currently are at +1900 (19/1 odds) to win the 2016 World Series.

Here are the top 5 betting favorites:

  • Cubs +700 (7/1)
  • Mets +1100 (11/1)
  • Giants +1100 (11/1)
  • Dodgers +1300 (13/1)
  • Blue Jays +1400 (14/1)

These other teams are also favored ahead of the Cardinals: Red Sox, Astros, Nationals & Royals.

FWIW, Cleveland is right behind the Cardinals with 21/1 odds.

I went back and looked at the futures odds from 2010-2015 (bet to win World Series) to see where the Cardinals odds stood around when they started the season (according to Vegas):

  • 2015: +1200 (12/1)
  • 2014: +1000 (10/1)
  • 2013: +2000 (20/1)
  • 2012: +2000 (20/1)
  • 2011: +2500 (25/1) – Paid!
  • 2010: +1400 (14/1)

You have to go back to 2011 to get (substantially) better odds on a future bet for the Cardinals to win the World Series.

And guess what happened in 2011?

Some places have the Cubs as low as 5/1 to win the World Series. Something that the franchise hasn’t done since 1908.

Bottom line? If you believe in the Cardinals in the NL Central, you might want to head out to Vegas and put a few bucks down on a futures bet.
