Training Camp Day 6: Happy Birthday Tom Brady

TimbersReal

It may have been a legend’s 39th birthday today but that does not stop practice as the Patriots were back out on the field today for another 2-hour training camp session.

Some big stories coming into today’s practice were the return of DL Alan Branch who has been out with a hip injury and Tom Brady’s birthday. Duron Harmon and Logan Ryan are still in the red no-contact jerseys but seem to be moving around the field better every day.

Donald Brown missed his first training camp practice after sustaining some sort of small injury during Monday night’s practice.  Bryan Stork, Dion Lewis, Jonathan Cooper, Nate Ebner (Olympics) and Keshawn Martin were all also missing from today’s session.

Julian Edelman is still on the PUP list but was yet again out on the practice field catching warm-up passes from Brady and stretching with the team. Edelman was in no pads or helmet, there is no timetable for when Edelman will be back fully with the team.

The beginning of practice was the normal Brady and Garoppolo splitting snaps with the first string. Well, Brissett got a lot of snaps with the 2nd string. Brissett had himself another good day as he continues to impress me more and more every time I see him. His decision making has become a lot quicker and he just looks more comfortable in the pocket.

Near the middle of practice, you saw Garoppolo taking all the snaps with the first string well Brady and Brissett were on the other practice field doing an offense sideline passing drill.

The patriots finished the session off with some 11-on-11 red zone situations. In this drill, we saw Brady connect with Gronkowski for a touchdown and the defense coming up with a huge fourth and one stop on the one-yard line.

Brady finished the day by going 4/20 in full-team 11-on-11. While going 2-of-5 in 7-on-7s and 6-of-10 with an interception in 1-on-1s. Jimmy Garoppolo went 10/15 in 11-on-11s. Jacoby Brissett went 5/6 in full-team drills, 3/5 in 7-on-7s and 3/6 in 1-on-1s.

Definitely not one Brady’s better days as we hit the second week of training camp but there is plenty of time for him to find his grove. The Patriots will be back on the field tomorrow as training camp day 7 starts at 9:15 AM and will go until 11:30.
