PIttsburgh Pirates’ Adam Frazier Has Staying Power

When the Pittsburgh Pirates began spring training about five months ago, the name Adam Frazier wasn’t on many’s radar.

Thanks to a very strong spring, Pittsburgh Pirates utilityman Adam Frazier made a case for himself to come north with the team on the Opening Day roster. While that didn’t happen, Frazier did enough in Triple-A to get the call to the big leagues this season.

Now in Pittsburgh, Frazier has been a nice surprise for a Pirates team that has had plenty of ups and downs this season.

Now that he has done a lot of positives on the major league level, Frazier is making a case for himself as a guy that should stick around the rest of the season and for plenty of seasons in the future.

While it is a very small sample size in terms of Frazier’s success to this point, he clearly has passed other Pirates prospects- most notably Alen Hanson– as a guy who belongs in Pittsburgh for the immediate future.

The question though is what about Frazier should make him stick on the 25-man roster when plenty of others ahead of him have come and gone?

Here’s a look at five things that could keep Frazier in a Pirates uniform for a very long time.

Plays the Game Right

As recent as late May, Frazier was ranked only as the Pirates’ No. 27 prospect by MLB.com.

That never fazed the Pirates’ sixth-round selection out of Mississippi State in 2013.

He has always just shown up and produced. Through his brief look in the majors, a big positive is the way he plays the game. Put simply, Frazier is a guy who plays hard and does all of the little things right. He’s not a guy who is going to make many mistakes that cost teams games.

He hustles, makes all of the routine plays and is a player that not only teammates like, but he is the kind of guy that Clint Hurdle likes to have on his 25-man roster. I can’t see Frazier changing the way he comes to the ballpark on a daily basis, so that should keep him in Pittsburgh for some time to come.
