Rudy Gay informs the Kings he’ll opt out and likely not return

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, Rudy Gay has informed Sacramento Kings management that he plans to use his 2017 player option to become an unrestricted free agent and considers himself unlikely to negotiate a new deal to return to the franchise.

Where does this leave the Kings?

1: It’s a tough thing to swallow because the timing is not the best and the season is right around the corner. Training camp starts next week and Gay has already sent a message.

2: If you put things in perspective, Gay hasn’t even given this season a chance, meaning he is sick and tired of the direction of the franchise. That doesn’t mean he is correct, it only means that’s how he views his situation with the franchise.

3: Vlade Divac is in a tough situation because the cohesiveness of the team has gotten better and this certainly won’t help since it’s coming from your second best player. What is the message you are trying to send your team? Will it benefit the team to simply get rid of Gay without getting much in return so you won’t have any more distractions or patiently waiting for the right move? You also have to take into account that whoever trades for Gay, are thinking the same thing. Will he resign after this year? Is there a team out there that are willing to package some draft picks and a decent player in return for Gay?

This season just got even more exciting. Give us your thoughts Kings fans. Where do you stand?
