Game 1: Lightning Start Slow, Comeback To Beat Red Wings 6-4

They didn’t make it easy on themselves. They got down 2-0 early. But they used the power play…yes the power play and four third period goals to defeat the Detroit Red wings for the seventh consecutive time at Amalie Arena by a 6-4 score.

Brian Boyle, Tyler Johnson, Alex Killorn, and Valtteri Filppula all scored in the third period following Jonathan Drouin‘s and Cedric Paquette‘s second period tallies.

Tampa Bay scored three power play goals including the game winner. Not bad for a group that ended up 28th with the man advantage last season. It appears that Jonathan Drouin is the new power play quarterback.

Ben Bishop appeared rusty but did become the Lightning’s all time saves leader late in the third period.

The Bolts will be back at it on Saturday night when they host the New Jersey Devils.
