Louisville Drops The Hammer On BC 52-7

More or less, the expected outcome for fans on both sides did happen today, as the highly talented Louisville Cardinals (8-1) drill the Eagles in a 52-7 victory at Alumni Stadium down in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.

For the Eagles, it’s another defeat (a big one) but the Eagles (4-5) put in all they could to keep striving. Quarterback Patrick Towles threw for 147 yards and threw a late touchdown pass in the 3rd quarter to at least avoid being blanked on the scoreboard to go along with a interception. On the ground, the BC rushing squad combined for 57 yards as the Cardinal defense took care of business upfront. On the receiving end of things, WR Charlie Callinan totaled 57 yards on 4 receptions while running back Tyler Rouse used his versatility to catch for 50 yards on two receptions and one of them leading to a much needed touchdown. WR Jeff Smith did not get attention through this game, as Louisville was too much.

As we all know and what ESPN or other news teams are gathering, Lamar Jackson is the Heisman front runner. Totaling 7 touchdowns in a blowout, Jackson is at this point adding stats to his, in my opinion, solidified Heisman trophy. What the trophy means is how Jackson plays his game and excels in all aspects.  Running for a game high 185 yards (more than doubled BC total rushing yards as a team) and scoring 3 touchdowns on the ground with 4 coming through the air. On the receiving end, Jaylen Smith took the brute of Jackson’s wild performance by catching 6 passes for 123 yards and a score.

The losses are piling up here for Boston College, as coaching seems to downgrade at a rapid pace with miscommunication and play calls that leave you scratching your heads. Talent no question exists on this team but is the coaching all there to help guide through the ACC conference? I’ll leave that up to you.

It doesn’t get any better next week, as Boston College travels to Tallahassee, Florida to take on Jimbo Fischer and the Florida State Seminoles Friday night at 7:30 pm et. Just for kicks and giggles, if you remember from last year when BC played Florida State, the Eagles only gave up 14 points to at the time, a top 5 team in the nation with outstanding defense led by Harold Landry and Justin Simmons. Now, look to Landry once more and LB Connor Strachan to help guide the Eagles past the Seminoles in a Friday night lights special.
