What Do You Want To See? Nebraska

A prime time game in the Horseshoe on national television.

Hmmm.

It just may be what the Ohio State Buckeyes offense needs to get going. You know, a liquored-up crowd, Herbie back in the house, a highly ranked opponent, the place should be nuts. Maybe the inexperienced group of wide receivers can use some of emotion and run routes and get open the proper way to keep the fans yelling. And maybe it will help quarterback J.T. Barrett hit them in stride when they get open.

I would like to see that. What else would we here at tBBC like to see?

A win: At this point, as I have said before, it’s all about flying the W.

Offensive explosion: Let’s score 40 or more on the Cornhuskers. How about 300 in the air and 250 on the ground as well?

No false starts: Come on O-line. Know the snap count.

Silver bullets return: Hold the ‘Huskers to 10 points or less and make Penny mad.

Offensive onslaught: Take it to them quickly, pick up the pace because I think the difference-maker in this game will be the pace of the offense versus their defense. There have been times in the past when the no huddle and keep going has been a huge advantage in those games where they weren’t expecting it. This team has been confident in it’s abilities but needs to step things up.

Defensive dominance: Get to the football fast and leave little doubt about what kind of hitting team the Buckeyes are. The front seven will need to get some pressure on the QB and keep Nebraska from getting outside quickly. Show some safety and corner blitzes early and get the ‘Huskers out of their run game.

Don’t let them hang around: Nebraska is a team this year that feeds off it’s offensive flow more than anything. OSU needs to keep the hammer down if the Buckeyes get up early and leave the conservative play-book at home. Take it to them and pound them into submission.

Awesome environment: I was lucky enough to be at The Shoe for the first B1G game between Ohio State and Nebraska. It was a day long party, and that night was the most amazing in-person game experience of which I have ever been a part. I want to see Ohio Stadium that same way. I want the crowd to be into the game. I want the team to give them something to stay engaged about.

Contain Tommy: The Buckeyes have struggled against mobile quarterbacks in the past, and Tommy Armstrong is quite mobile. Containing him in the pocket will be key. If he is able to escape and make plays with his legs, it will be a long day for Ohio State.

Pressure please: Along those same lines, Armstrong is known to make terrible throws under pressure, so the defensive line and linebackers are going to have to get to him early and often to make him uncomfortable so he makes some of those errant throws.

Offensive identity: Please for the love of God find that early season offensive identity. Get Curtis Samuel and Mike Weber the ball early and often, and find a viable down-field threat. Barrett is going to have to connect with some of these throws down the field as he has missed quite a few this season. No Devin Smith and Michael Thomas to rely on this year.
