FOWLER

As of 10a today, Dexter Fowler is officially a member of the St. Louis Cardinals.

Contract details have been reported at 5 years for 82.5M (16.5/yr) with a full no-trade clause. Dexter Fowler will be your center-fielder for the foreseeable future, my friends.

The former Chicago Cub (and Rockie (Rocky?) and Astro) had a real nice 2016.

He earned a 4.4 WAR. Had an outstanding 1st inning OBP of .426. And was a huge playoff catalyst totaling 29 combined bases in the NLCS and World Series. His defense was pretty good too, with a +1 runs saved score.

He was also one of the most praised players by Cubs manager Joe Maddon, who often put the impetus for success on Fowler’s shoulders. “You go, we go” was the phrase he favored.

Thumbs up, Mo. The Cardinals are better today with Dexter Fowler than they were yesterday without Dexter Fowler.

With the previous off-season addition of Brett Cecil in the bullpen the Cardinals are beginning to round out a roster that will be more competitive in 2017 than it was in 2016.

Will it be enough?
