The Devils lose at home, and it’s almost all Robby Fabbri’s fault

Robby Fabbri is 20 years old, and he played in his 99th game of his NHL career last night.  Hes’s obviously been a key contributor, and has immense talent. Not everyone can put in this many games at that young an age without both things being true. He’s also apparently far too cool to smile in pictures.. His performance last night be the one that puts a smile on young Fabbri’s face.

The New Jersey Devils finally lost to their first home game of the season, falling to 8-1-2 at home this season. Usually with this kind of a record at home, a mediocre record on the road puts you in playoff position. The Devils are in 6th place in the Metro. Granted, they are sitting one spot out of the final wild card spot, but for having gone 10 games without a regulation loss, a quarter of their season, seems like a recipe to get a team in the playoffs. The Blues, on the other hand, are in second place behind the Chicago Blackhawks in the entire Western Conference. They also have a very good record at home, at 12-1-3, and they’ve been able to go 7-2-1 in their last 10.

So perhaps it seemed fait accompli that the Blues were going to continue their good fortune and  the Devils’ streak was due to end, but I’m not entirely sure that it would have happened without Robby Fabbri’s two goals, giving him but 8 for the season and 26 for his career. Vladimir Tarasenko, somewhat more obviously, played his part as well, adding 3 assists.

At the very least, the stoic Fabbri may think about breaking out into a grin after the Blues ended up keeping their hot streak alive, thanks in large part of his performance.
