Western Kentucky University Names Mike Sanford Head Coach

CUSA Championship - Southern Miss v Western Kentucky

One of the best offensive minds in college football finally gets his shot at a head coaching job. Mike Sanford, former Notre Dame offensive coordinator, has accepted the job of head football coach at Western Kentucky University. Sanford just finished his second season as the Fighting Irish offensive coordinator after being the offensive coordinator at Boise State for one season. Prior to Boise State, Sanford spent three seasons with the Stanford Cardinals as running backs coach, wide receivers coach, quarterbacks coach and recruiting coordinator. At Stanford, Sanford put together back to back seasons in which the Cardinals had a top-20 recruiting class.

At Western Kentucky, we can expect Sanford to bring a powerful offensive mind and an elite recruiting style to a mid-conference team. Ultimately, we’re looking at Sanford spending two to three years at Western Kentucky before getting a shot at a Power 5 head coaching job.
