The Aftermath Game #28: Blue Jackets @ Flames

Columbus Blue Jackets v Los Angeles Kings

The Columbus Blue Jackets continued their winning ways in Calgary tonight, taking down the Flames by a 4-1 final. Boone Jenner got on the board first, with Brandon Saad staking the team a 2-0 lead. Sean Monahan scored the lone Flames goal, with Sam Gagner (Zach Werenski?) and Matt Calvert adding second period markers to give the Jackets the win. Sergei Bobrobsky was excellent, especially in the third period, stopping 22 shots.

The Good: Possession Domination

This is only through two periods, as the game got all score effecty in the third period and the Flames ended up above the Jackets. But for the first two periods, aka when the game was still in doubt, it was pure unadulterated CBJ domination.

The Great: Everything About This Goal

Great defensive play by Werenski to knock the puck from Monahan, great play from Wennberg to pick up the puck, protect it, and feed it to Saad, and of course that dirty finish. Great work all around.

The Grand: Matty Hustle’s Dagger

The fourth goal in a 4-1 win isn’t usual that notable, but this one was a killer. It wasn’t even the midpoint of the game yet, and the Flames had a powerplay. Their best player, Johnny Gaudreau, had the puck. Enter Matt Calvert, who burned all the Flames happiness to the ground, Han-style. He picked off a pass, and took it to the house for the back-breaker.

The Wonderful: EIGHT GAME WINNING STREAK

Yes, the Columbus Blue Jackets have won eight consecutive games. Not only that, but they are also tops in the entire NHL in point percentage. If they can just tread water in their games in hand, they will be in first place! Chris Farley, how would you describe the 2016-17 Columbus Blue Jackets?
