LA Rams Notes: Todd Gurley a Two-Sport Star?

Dallas Cowboys v Philadelphia Eagles

Todd Gurley will enter the 2017 NFL season with a chip on his shoulder after his subpar 2016 season.

But a recently released video shows the Rams’ third-year running back also honing his skills on a different playing surface, leading to the question:

Is Gurley pursuing a two-sport career?

The short answer: No.

Gurley merely showed up an a 24 Hour in California and immersed himself in a pickup basketball game, according to Fansided’s RamblinFan.com. With a courtside camera phone recording him, the former Georgia Bulldog has the ball at midcourt and does a crossover that puts his defender on the seat of his pants.

RamblinFan.com’s headline excitedly reads: “Watch Rams RB Todd Gurley Break Ankles in Pickup Basketball Game.” While that is true, bear in mind that the defender could have been you or me—which diminishes the “break ankles” fact just a bit.

Still, as RambinFan points out, Gurley likely gave his basketball mates a day to remember with his participation. Rather than “big league” the pickup players, Gurley took time out to join them.

It’s good to see Gurley enjoying himself after a tough 2016.

With Gurley already motivated to produce a bounce-back year in 2017, it’s a good bet that new head coach Sean McVay, new offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur, running backs coach Skip Peete and offensive line coach Aaron Kromer already are plotting a scheme that will help Gurley reestablish himself as one of the NFL’s elite running backs.
