Los Angeles Rams MOCK DRAFT 2.0

statejumbotags9

The NFL Draft is just sixteen days away, well seventeen for the Rams and we’ve entered the point where mock drafts are getting blown up due to whispers of certain players falling in and out of favor with a host of different teams. The only thing that is certain is that the Browns will take Myles Garrett because even they aren’t dumb enough to pass on him. For awhile, it appeared as though the Rams would keep their options open regarding the 37th overall pick but after a few recent free agent signings, they’ve become a lot easier to figure out going into this next mock draft.

37TH-(ROUND TWO)-ZAY JONES WR EAST CAROLINA

The Rams wanted to use the draft to give Jared Goff a weapon and by God they are going to give him a weapon. Jones isn’t the burner that a guy like Juju Smith-Schuster would be but he is the all time FBS leader in receptions which makes him a reliable target. He’s 6’1 and by default he’d be the tallest receiver on the roster and someone Goff can lean on to extend drives. Jones can also make difficult catches and has been regarded as a guy who has a relentless work ethic and is all in on every play.

69TH PICK(ROUND THREE)-MARCUS WILLIAMS S UTAH

Les Snead might have solved the issues at corner both with free agency and the push to make LaMarcus Joyner a safety but they could still used another blue chip player at this position. Marcus Williams is terrific in coverage and has been called a ball hawk. He has excellent instincts and athleticism which makes him a great fit in this defense as he’s also great on run defense. Williams is also disciplined and won’t get a ton of dumb penalties or eschew form tackling in favor of a big hit. A tight end could has also shown up in various mock drafts but they’ve already committed to a starting tight end so its not as pressing a need as safety.

112TH PICK (ROUND FOUR)-TIM WILLIAMS DE ALABAMA

Sean McVay said that just because Robert Quinn is playing linebacker, it doesn’t mean he won’t be an edge rusher. That being said, the Rams need depth at this position and Williams will do just fine. Williams is adept at getting to the quarterback and while the rub on him is that he can be fooled by screens and misdirection, that’s something that can be solved with coaching.

141ST PICK (ROUND FOUR) NICO SIRAGUSA G SAN DIEGO ST

The Rams offensive line signings were good but due to their age are not long term solutions. Greg Robinson will be a starting guard but that isn’t a guarantee for success so it might be a good idea to grab a guard. Siragusa was a three year starter and possesses a lot of power, he struggles with moving side to side but again that’s something Aaron Kromer can solve during training camp. He also has tremendous leadership abilities and is awesome in run blockage. In another mock a receiver could also be taken here but they might be better served building their line if the positional value is right.

149TH PICK(ROUND SIX)-PAT ELFEIN C OHIO STATE

John Sullivan was a great pick up and if he can return to form than his one year deal could be extended a bit longer. That being said, a long term solution is still required and Elfein was a stud in college and while he awaits his turn as the starting center he’s flexible enough to play at guard if need be. He has excellent center of gravity, is effective in pulling situations, and possesses a phenomenal work ethic. He struggles in pass protection but once again that’s something that’s fixable.

189TH PICK(ROUND SIX)- TEDRIC THOMPSON FS COLORADO

The corner position has been solved for the time being so depth is still needed at safety. Thompson is a former receiver with great hands and speed. He is adept at reading the quarterback has excellent cover skills. If he’s still here he’d be a steal and hopefully provide a long term need.

234TH PICK (ROUND SEVEN)-STEVEN TAYLOR ILB HOUSTON

Despite some recent signings at linebacker it wouldn’t hurt to add some additional depth. Taylor is great as the blitz and while he isn’t as athletic as scouts would like he could find a home on special teams or in blitzing situations as an extra rusher.
