A month away from opening night at Gillette Stadium and the Patriots have started joint practices with the Jacksonville Jaguares as they prepare for their first preseason game Thursday night. Things are starting to get official as NFL referee Pete Morelli and crew is in Foxboro for the joint practices between the Patriots and Jaguars.

Special teams captain Matthew Slater was the only Patriot absent from practice today. As Mike Gillislee, Cody Hollister, David Jones, James O’Shaughnessy, Nate Solder were all present but did not participate. Dont’a Hightower and Alan Branch were also placed on the PUP (physically unable to perform) list.

It was a rather sloppy day of practice for the Patriots with a lot of offensive drops and penalties but it was cover by a three-minute stretch where Brady light it up with big touchdown passes to Brandin Cooks and Chris Hogan. I can not wait to see Brandin Cooks in a real game with the Patriots as Brady and him have really connected so far in this training camp. Cooks was beating up on the Jags defense all day as it was his best day of camp yet.

To go back to those big plays by Brady, Brady, and Hogan connected with a perfectly thrown 40-yard touchdown. Brady then threw another long throw to Cooks that kept the compacity crowd on their feet and cheering.

Brady finished the day 23 of 35 with an interception to Doran Grant, the pass was intended for Cooks. It was a rough day for Brady with 4 drops. Garoppolo went 7 of 11 with 2 drops.

Patriots and Jaguares will be back on the field tomorrow for day 2 of joint practices.
