Former University of Virginia guard London Perrantes was signed by the San Antonio Spurs today according to a team press release.

Perrantes played four years at the University of Virginia and is the school’s all-time leader in games played (138) and minutes played (4,425). During his senior season, Perrantes averaged 12.7 points, 3.8 assists and 3.0 rebounds in 32.1 minutes, earning All-ACC Second Team honors.  For his career with Cavaliers, he averaged 8.9 points, 4.1 assists, 2.7 rebounds in 32.1 minutes while shooting .409 (211-516) from beyond the arc, second all-time in UVA history.

Perrantes is considered a pass-first point guard, and with the Spurs having several question marks at the position, Perrantes can provide some depth, but with a full roster, Perrantes is likely a training camp signing and someone the Spurs could be tabbing for their Austin G-League affiliate.

He averaged a combined 10.6 points, 4.9 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game in his Summer League stints with the Miami Heat.

Spurs fans may be familiar with Perrantes after the Miami Heat crawled back into a game against the Spurs in Vegas and Perrantes hit the game-winning jumper.

Aside from being able to distribute the ball, Perrantes is also an active defender. At 6-2, he’s would be undersized against most wings, but he has the speed and instincts to hound point guards. He was also a career 40 percent three-point shooter at UVA.

While the chances of him making the roster are likely slim to none, he could be a good prospect to keep an eye on in Austin and will be someone that will challenge the younger Spurs guards in camp.
