Ginobili Officially Re-Signs with Spurs for 16th Season

Thursday the San Antonio Spurs announced the team has officially re-signed guard Manu Ginobili for an upcoming 16th season with the club. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not announced, but, according to Yahoo! Sports, Ginobili’s new deal will be worth $5 million for 2-seasons, fully guaranteed.

Ginobili will join Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Kobe Bryant, Dirk Nowitzki, John Stockton, Reggie Miller and John Havlicek as the only NBA players to play at least 16 seasons with one team, per the press release.

With Ginobili re-signing for $5 million over two seasons, the Spurs have a total team salary near $116.1 million, which allows them to avoid the luxury tax this season. Next summer Ginobili will have the option of returning with the Spurs at age 41 for a 17th season or he could retire and still get paid the latter part of his new deal.

With Ginobili back on the roster, the Spurs now have 14 players under guaranteed contracts. The Spurs have one open roster spot remaining that Bryn Forbes and London Perrantes will be competing for. Matt Costello already signed a 2-way contract and the Spurs still have one more 2-way contract space to fill and they can invite up to three more players to training camp.
