After winning six of seven at home, the Chicago Cubs hit the road Sunday and Joe Maddon was up to his old tricks.

The skipper allowed the team to forgo their normal travel wear and, instead…wear football jerseys.

From Tom Brady to Roger Staubach, all the gridiron greats (past and present) were represented. And, because Chicago, Dick Butkus, Gale Sayers and Mike Singletary jerseys were pulled from the mothballs. Maddon even got in the act by donning Mike Ditka’s Number 89.

But it was Bryzzo that won the day.

First, was Kris Bryant. The reigning National League MVP went the cinematic route…wearing the black and red “Mean Machine” jersey popularized by Adam Sandler in “The Longest Yard.

Pretty sweet, but someone might need to let him know that Burt Reynolds’ Paul Krewe was vastly superior.

Anthony Rizzo went a little more obscure, but kept it on the silver screen…channeling “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective” foil, the fictitious Ray Finkle.

Now, should Dan Marino die of gonorrhea and rot in hell…he can always be replaced by Cubs outfielder Albert Almora Jr.
