Your Morning Dump… Where Danny Ainge didn’t mince words when he told IT about the trade

THomas Cleveland

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big story line. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.

Apparently Thomas initially missed the call from Ainge, Boston’s president of basketball operations.

“I called him back,” Thomas said in his Instagram video which lasted about one minute. “He was like, ‘How’s your life?’

Thomas recalled saying, “I just got back home; I’m straight.”

And then Ainge, according to Thomas said, “I just traded you.

There’s no need for small talk when you’re about to inform a player that his life is being turned upside down.

I’d like to think there were follow-up calls at some point from Danny, Wyc and Brad Stevens where they personally thanked Isaiah Thomas for his contributions to the organization.

Isaiah shared his story in an Instagram video which I highly recommend you watch.

On Page 2, is Kyrie Irving a fantastic passer?

You’ll see that he’s a better passer. I think the people that watch Kyrie a lot can see his passing, his potential as a passer. LeBron was pretty much the point guard in Cleveland and Kyrie was a PG when LeBron wasn’t on the court but… he’s a fantastic passer and defensively, he’s got to improve and I think he will in Brad’s system.

I skimmed through a bunch of passing stats (assists per game, assists/turnover ratio, assist percentage, secondary assists, passes made) and didn’t find Kyrie Irving anywhere close to the top of any of them.

After all, we’re talking about a guy who once pissed off teammates after posting 1 assist in 39 minutes of game action.

But if Danny Ainge says Kyrie is a fantastic passer, we have to believe him. Or you can watch some passing highlights from 2 years ago and judge for yourself.

I’m not worried about his passing. He’s here to score and make big shots (in the playoffs). And after hearing how much he admires Brad Stevens, I’m confident Kyrie will do whatever Brad asks of him offensively.

I love how Danny slides in the obligatory comment about defense. Let’s be honest, if Kyrie is ever going to bust his ass on defense, this will be the year.

And finally, the Celtics are blessed.

Lil B is a rapper(I think?) who apparently has a habit of blessing and cursing athletes and teams.

You may resume living your life.
