Redwing77’s Take: NCHC Frozen Faceoff Returns to Familiar Home

Four years ago, the NCHC began holding its Frozen Faceoff tournement in Minneapolis’ Target Center.  This will no longer be the case as the NCHC terminated its contract with the Target Center (there was still 1 year left on the contract) and moved to St. Paul and returned home to the XCel Energy Center.

I don’t have much to say regarding the Target Center as I was never able to watch a game from that arena.  However, I was not enthused about it when it was announced way back when.  I thought nontraditional arenas make poor venues for big stakes hockey games.  That’s why I thought so poorly of the NC game being held in places like Ford Field in Detroit, MI.

I’m not sure what to expect regarding attendance moving forward.  Minnesota isn’t going to be there.  However, I believe that the experience will be well received.  I’ll leave it to Goon to compare the two venues.

Here is the Grand Forks Herald article about this.
