Expectations are high for Melvin Gordon, as he’s now entering his third season in the NFL, but he did not disappoint in Monday night’s opener against the Broncos.

Denver fields one of the most stout defensive fronts in the NFL, but Gordon still managed to produce — with 79 all-purpose yards on 23 touches — and a touchdown to boot.

But the Broncos did not make it easy for Gordon, who had to earn his one trip to the end zone.

It happened in the first quarter, with the Chargers faced with a second-and-10 situation from the Broncos’ 11-yard line. Gordon received a pass from Philip Rivers and was met by a Broncos linebacker. That didn’t matter, though, as Gordon casually leaped over him, into the end zone, for the score.

There’s no better way to score your team’s first touchdown of the season.
