Your Morning Dump… Where the guy suing Marcus Morris may have messed with his mom

Morris Twins Trial

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big story line. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.

Hood told Phoenix police he was leaving a high school basketball game when he was approached by a friend of the Morris brothers. Hood said the man was speaking to him when he was punched in the back of the head.

Hood tried to run but fell down before five men, including the Morris twins, punched and kicked him repeatedly, authorities said. All five left in a Rolls Royce Phantom, according to police.

Hood testified that his relationship with the brothers became strained because of a misinterpreted text message that he sent to their mother. Hood said there was nothing “improper” happening with him and their mother.

ESPN

Other than knowing Marcus Morris faces a 10-game suspension if convicted, I haven’t paid too much attention to this situation.

I want to scold these guys for getting caught up in the usual entourage/hangers on drama that plagues many athletes but there seems to be more to the story. Like, if you mess with a dude’s mother, in any way, shape or form, then you open yourself up to a beat down.

Plus, this Hood character seems like an opportunist in pursuit of a pay day.

Losing Morris for 10 games isn’t going to make or break the Celtics season. But with all the new faces, I prefer that Brad Stevens doesn’t have to deal with any unnecessary hiccups as he integrates 11 new players into his offense.

On Page 2, Jaylen Brown doesn’t rule out the flat earth theory?

There’s ZERO chance Jaylen Brown believes the earth is flat. The man’s a god damn intellectual. Hell, I just watched an Instagram video of him teaching himself to play the piano.

File under: Jaylen is just being a good teammate.

And finally, a look at Al Horford’s paycheck.

TEN MILLION in federal taxes? My god.

ESPN has this interesting breakdown of player salaries and deductions. The escrow has something to do with the CBA and owners paying players 51% of Basketball Related Income.

Get this… it’s possible Horford will have to pay another million in taxes as Massachusetts considers doubling the income tax rate for folks making more than $1 million.
