Colts Authority Injury Report Week 5: Making Strides

New York Jets v Indianapolis Colts

12 is back! We got to see Andrew Luck take the practice field for the first time this year. He only was able to do some light throwing, but progress is progress.  It will be a while before he is ready to make his debut for a game this season. There still is no set time for his return so when exaclty that may be remains a mystery.

The official report is as follows;

OUT

Andrew Luck QB (Shoulder)

Jack Doyle TE  (concussion)

Nate Hairston CB  (Quad)

Doubtful

Matt Jones RB (knee)

Questionable

Rashaan Melvin CB (hamstring/ankle)

Chester Rogers WR  (hamstring)

The biggest news outside of Andrew Luck throwing is that center Ryan Kelly will make his season debut. Thankfully so. In light of his return the Colts let go of backup Center Adam Redman.  Some stability will be nice in the middle of an offensive line that hasn’t helped much in the run game. Speaking of the run game RB Marlon Mack will be back in the lineup. He’s shown flashes with his brief time on the field. I’m excited to have him back and see what he can contribute. Mack is returning from a shoulder injury.

Jack Doyle has worked his way through the concussion protocol this week but is still listed as OUT for Sunday. The Colts signed TE Henry Krieger-Coble yesterday, which was a tip off that Doyle might not be ready and indeed that was the case.

Getting defensive, Quincy Wilson was a full go on Thursday & Friday, recovering from a knee injury. He will be available this Sunday.  Rashaan Melvin is listed as questionable so getting Wilson back could ease the loss of one of the Colts top performing corners, should Melvin not be able to go.

For the opposition, the 49ers RB Carlos Hyde was limited all week. LB Reuben Foster had not participated in practices this week and is likely to be out for Sunday.

It’s shaping up to be a good Sunday. It’s Peyton’s day, The San Francisco 49ers are coming into town, winless, so there is a good chance for a Colts victory. Andrew Luck is practicing. Good times. Yes the Colts are only 1-4 but still, could be worse. You could be a 49ers fan. Your QB could be Brian Hoyer.
