Willam Byron Takes Race Late At Phoenix

The Xfinity drivers were at Phoenix for the final round of eliminations to decide who moves on for a chance to win the championship.

The race starts off with an ultra early caution on lap 1 as Brendan Gaughan spins out.  Next up was a short green flag run with Erik Jones leading lap after lap.  Around lap 22 it was caution time as Brennan Poole got the worst of the three wide situation and wound up wrecking into the outside wall.  An attempt to fix his car did not work and ruined it further ending any chance he had of moving onto the championship.  As the race continued Ryan Blaney got to lead laps.  He led the rest of the way and took the first stage.  The leaders pit and Ryan Blaney keeps the race lead.

The second stage was a quick one with Ryan Blaney leading lap after lap and easily taking the second stage.

The third stage started off with a long green flag run and Ryan Blaney leading lap after lap.  With 20 lap left it was finally caution time as Brendan Gaughan smacked the wall.  Drivers pitted and William Byron was now in the race lead.  The race restarted and William was leading laps as Daniel Hemric was fighting for his life to get the final playoff spot.  As the laps quickly went down he was only in 4th place by one point.  When we got to final lap Daniel made the most of a three wide situation to get the fourth and final spot to win the championship next week by 4 points as William Byron won the race.

“We grinded all day,” said William Byron.
