The Patriots’ questionable decision to take out safety Devin McCourty and insert Rob Gronkowski into the final play of Sunday’s game against the Dolphins has been a hot topic of debate since the contest ended, and understandably so. Fans who took advantage of the online bet365 offer and bet on the Dolphins made a lot of money from that stunning play.

Gronkowski weighs 265 pounds and doesn’t move well laterally, while the agile McCourty can read and diagnose plays. And, most importantly, he can tackle — something Gronk failed to do on the play.

The end result was Dolphins running back Kenyan Drake racing down the sideline, with Gronkowski attempting to square up and tackle him. Gronk stumbled, however, and Drake ran right by him for the walk-off touchdown.

This field-level video which recently surfaced shows how the play looked from Gronk’s point of view, and it really has us scratching our heads as to why he was in the game in the first place. Gronkowski looked lost, and he was slow to react when Drake broke free via a great block by Dolphins lineman Ted Larsen.

That’s a play McCourty likely would’ve made, while Gronk could not, and it probably cost the team a chance at garnering the 1-seed in the AFC playoffs.
