I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thanks for reading. During 2019, I look forward to providing more hockey and football coverage.

At the Christmas break, the UND hockey team sits at 9-7-1, 3-5 (NCHC). Yes, there’s room for improvement, but the foundation for a strong second half is there. Here are a few things that stuck out during the first half of the season.

At the Christmas break, senior forward Rhett Gardner (8g-1a–9pts) leads the team in goals with eight. Gardner has also leads the team in face off wins 267/419 (.637).

Sophomore forward Jordan Kawaguchi leads the team in points with (3g-8a–11pts). Sophomore defenseman Matt Kierstad is tied for second on the team in scoring with (4g-6a–10pts). Kierstad has points in five of the last six games. Freshman defenseman Jacob Bernard-Docker (4g-6a–10pts).

Making his shots count, freshman forward Mark Senden has scored two goals and four points. Senden is tied with Gardner for the team lead in game winning goals with two.

Freshman goalie Adam Scheel has established himself as the number one goalie with a (8-4-1 record, 1.89 GAA and a .913 save percentage). Nationally, Sheel has the best GAA for all freshmen goalies and is ranked ninth overall for GAA.

Sophomore goalie Peter Thome will want to improve on his first half numbers (1-3-0 record, 3.75 GAA and a .838 save percentage).

In his fourth year behind the bench, UND head coach Brad Berry is 81-42-18 (.638)
