Tom Brady wants to keep playing, what do the Patriots think about that?

On Wednesday, Tom Brady reaffirmed his decision that he would like to continue playing football in 2019.

If we’ve learned anything about Tom Brady, it’s that you don’t question whatever Tom Brady has his mind set on accomplishing, that’s not the purpose here, to question his mindset, no, the question, is more about the Patriots franchise and their thoughts about possibly going into the 2019 season with a 42-year old quarterback as their starter.

Brady hasn’t exactly tailed off in his production, his numbers are about on par with how he’s always played.  What’s changed a bit more this year than last, is injuries to his offense.  Gronk is beat up, Hogan will disappear for a game here and there, the Josh Gordon experiment is over, and starting running back Sony Michel has missed several games with a variety of injuries.

The only constant for the 2018 Patriots on offense, has been Tom Brady.

But what about next season?  Do you bring back Tom Brady at 42-years old or finally walk away thinking “big picture”?  Do you let Brady go and bring in a free agent quarterback like perhaps Joe Flacco, Ryan Tannehill, Tyrod Taylor, or maybe even Blake Bortles?

Do you try your hand in a relatively weak upcoming 2019 QB class or make a trade with a team for a backup right now that could hopefully develop into a starter in the next year or two?  Maybe a CJ Beathard from the 49ers is something to ponder, I guess, anything is possible.

If I could, Tom Brady would never get old.  But I don’t control that stuff, and at some point, the Patriots are not going to have Brady as their starting quarterback anymore, it’s just a fact.  The only question is, are they prepared for when that time comes? Is Tom Brady?
