Yankees rumors indicate Manny Machado expected to sign with team

MLB: World Series-Boston Red Sox at Los Angeles Dodgers

Free-agent slugger Manny Machado has been making the rounds, visiting with teams over the past few months, but the tea leaves are indicating he’s going to sign with the Yankees.

Machado was traded from the Orioles to the Dodgers last season, and as such, he was able to participate in the World Series. He struggled in the postseason, though, hitting just .227, but coming up with a few clutch hits, including a home run in Game 7 of the NLCS, with 12 RBIs as well.
He was 7 of 23 in the playoffs with the Orioles, so it’s fair to question his ability to hit in big games.

Still, Machado is one of the best at his position, and he can do it with both the bat and the glove. As such, a number of teams were bidding for his services, with the Phillies, White Sox and Yankees among them. And apparently, he’s headed to the Bronx.

Machado played the majority of his career in the AL East, but it will be interesting to see if he can keep his attitude in check with the Bronx Bombers, as that’s been an issue in the past. He clearly wants to win, so that’s good, but it does speak volumes that the Dodgers cleared viewed him as a rental, not a long-term option.
