Independent Wrestler Fighting WWE Over ‘Sister Abigail’ Trademark

Bray-Wyatt-1

Bray Wyatt is one of the most enigmatic and bizarre Superstars in recent WWE history. He began as an incredibly well spoken heel and eventually transformed into a wildly popular character babyface.

But much of Bray’s initial allure was wrapped up in the Sister Abigail character. Abigail was supposedly the woman that raised Bray. Even though she’s never been seen, she has became just as important to his mythos as The Wyatt Family. Now WWE is attempting to stop Sister Abigail from coming to life.

According to Heel By Nature, WWE is opposing a trademark filing for the Sister Abigail name. The person behind the filing is independent wrestler Tatevik Hunanyan, who works under the name Tatevik The Gamer.

Evidently Hunanyan does intend to use the name for pro wrestling purposes. He was actually granted the trademark because WWE failed to initially dispute the filing. Hunanyan first went for the trademark in June of 2018.

This is not the first time that WWE has been on the short end of a trademark situation. The company also did not act quick enough to prevent Major League Wrestling from trademarking War Games. WWE does use the moniker for the NXT brand but instead styles the match as WarGames.

Ironically enough, the Sister Abigail character was rumored to be on the way to WWE programming in 2017. Bray “introduced” her to Finn Bálor on Monday Night Raw, but the character was nothing more than Wyatt in drag.

The segment could have been laughed off the air, but it was so creepy that many fans immediately began to wonder if Bray could actually pull it off. But Sister Abigail did not appear in a WWE ring, as Wyatt went on the shelf with medical issues. Bálor instead worked AJ Styles at TLC.

Bray Wyatt has been missing in action since his tag team with Matt Hardy came to an end. Teaming with Hardy humanized Bray to a great extent, but Wyatt’s primary gimmick remains intact. He has worked two recent house shows for the company, using his familiar gear and character on both occasions.
