WWE Raw star Dean Ambrose, who lost two big matches this week, is likely finishing up with WWE, according to Wade Keller of PWTorch.
On Sunday night, Ambrose was eliminated from the Royal Rumble match after making a brief, and underwhelming appearance in the bout. The very next night on Raw, Ambose lost cleanly to his former Shield partner and winner of the Royal Rumble match, Seth Rollins.
According to the PWTorch report, Ambrose has been “frustrated with the creative direction of his character” for quite sometime now, and reportedly informed management at the Rumble PPV on Sunday that he intends to leave the company when his contract expires in April.
The report adds WWE recently made Ambrose a new contract offer, which included a sizeable pay raise, however Ambrose turned the deal down, noting pay was not the issue, and instead it was due to creative issues reaching a breaking point for the former WWE Champion.
[lawrence-related id=853218]Ambrose made his WWE debut back in 2011, after signing a deal to compete in FCW, which was later rebranded as NXT, and Ambrose was one of the brand’s top stars before making the transition to the WWE main roster.
As of this writing, it remains unknown if Ambrose has plans to sign with another promotion, but given the emergence of All Elite Wrestling, as well as companies such as Impact Wrestling, ROH and NJPW trying to lock talents into longterm deals, it’s very likely a big money offer will be coming Ambrose’s way from one of WWE’s competitors.
Update: Following the initial publication of this article, WWE issued the statement below confirming Dean Ambrose’s future:
Dean Ambrose (Jonathan Good) will not be renewing his contract with WWE when it expires in April.
We are grateful and appreciative of all that Dean has given to WWE and our fans. We wish him well and hope that one day Dean will return to WWE.
