Redskins Announce Changes to Staff

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The Washington Redskins announced today that they have made several changes to their personnel department. The team has promoted college scouts Cole Spencer and David Whittington to national scouts along with elevating Matt Evans to the role of college scout in the Southeast region. In corresponding moves, the team named former BLESTO scout Harrison Ritcher the new college scout in the Southwest region and named former scouting assistant Peter Picerelli the new college scout in the Northeast region. Ron Rose, a scouting assistant in 2018 has been named the new BLESTO scout and will operate out of the Northeast region. The team also hired Connor Barringer as a football strategy analyst and Tyler Claytor as a scouting assistant.

 “We’re excited to announce the changes and additions to our player personnel department,” said Senior Vice President of Player Personnel Doug Williams. “These individuals have worked extremely hard every day to help build our roster. We value the importance of this department and the personnel that contributes in the day-to-day operations.”

Cole Spencer is entering his 10th season with the Redskins in 2019. He spent seven seasons as a college scout for the Redskins and most recently oversaw the team’s scouting operations in the Southeast region. Spencer originally joined the Redskins in 2010 as a scouting intern.

David Whittington is entering his 11th season with the Redskins in 2019. He spent seven seasons as a college scout for the Redskins and most recently oversaw the team’s scouting operations in the Southwest region. Whittington also spent two seasons as the team’s BLESTO scout as well as assisting with scouting college players in the Northeast region. He originally joined the organization as an intern in the personnel department.

Matt Evans is entering his sixth season with the Redskins and oversaw the team’s scouting operations in the Northeast region from 2015-18. He will now be responsible for overseeing the team’s scouting operations and evaluation of the Southeast region which is widely regarded as the most talent rich region in the country.

Harrison Ritcher will be entering his third season with the Redskins and his first as a college scout. Ritcher was the team’s BLESTO scout the last two seasons and will now be overseeing the team’s scouting operations in the Southwest region. Prior to joining the Redskins, Ritcher worked for the Cleveland Browns personnel department for four seasons.

Scouting assistants Peter Picerelli and Ron Rose have both been promoted and will be operating out of the Northeast region. Picerelli has been a scouting assistant with the Redskins for the past two seasons and will now be a college scout, overseeing the team’s scouting operations in the Northeast region. Rose was a scouting assistant with the team in 2018 and will be the team’s new BLESTO scout where he will be tasked with scouting underclassmen in the Northeast region.

The team also hired Connor Barringer to the role of football strategy analyst and Tyler Claytor to fill the role of scouting assistant. Barringer was a football analyst for Pro Football Focus in 2018 and was tasked with breaking down game film and grading players for the subscription based website. Claytor played defensive line for William and Mary from 2012-16 and spent the 2016 offseason as a member of the Chicago Bears. He played defensive line for the Richmond Roughriders in the Arena League following his stint with the Bears and coached linebackers at Ave Maria University in 2018.
