Jamie Moyer opted out of his two-year contract with Comcast after just one season in the Phillies TV booth alongside play-by-play voice Tom McCarthy and occasionally fellow analysts Matt Stairs and Mike Schmidt. The search continues for a replacement to fill the vacancy opened by Moyer. Pregame and postgame analyst Ben Davis and former Phillies infielder Kevin Stocker have been rumored to be the top two candidates for the job, but another former Phillies infielder could also be in contention.
Mickey Morandini, currently a coach with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, reportedly has interviewed for the job for a second straight year. Bob Brookover of The Philadelphia Inquirer dropped that information in a column today suggesting he should be the leading candidate for the job ahead of Davis and Stocker, Morandini’s former teammate in the Phillies infield.
Morandini, who is about to start his second season as a coach at triple-A Lehigh Valley after spending three years as a manager in the Phillies’ minor-league system, is the best man for the job. His agent, Rex Gary, said Morandini interviewed for the Comcast job for the second straight year.
“I was told he was fine last year [in auditions] and really good this year,” Gary said.
Morandini showed interest in the job last year, when he was reported to be one of the top candidates for the booth job. Moyer and Mitch Williams of MLB Network were considered the top two candidates for the job, but Stocker was also thought to be among the options in play as well.
Who do you think should be added to the Phillies TV booth?
