The final piece of the Philadelphia Phillies coaching staff appears to have been put in place. Mickey Morandini, former Phillies second baseman and minor league coach, has been added to the Phillies coaching staff for 2016. He will take over as the first base coach for the Phillies and will assume the responsibilities regarding baserunning.

As noted by Jim Salisbury on CSNPhilly.com, Morandini’s first base duties will lead to Juan Samuel moving over to third base. Other new additions to the Phillies coaching staff include catching coach John McLaren and bullpen coach Rick Kranitz.

Morandini has been working in the Phillies organization for the past five years with various stints in the minor league system. He was a manager or a coach at all three basic levels in the farm system on his way up to a job with the Phillies.
