Former Philadelphia Phillies shortstop and future Phillies Wall of Famer will have at least one more stop on his way to retirement. Jimmy Rollins has signed a minor league deal with the Chicago White Sox that comes with an invitation to spring training, according to Dan Hayes of CSN Chicago.

Rollins will join his new team on Thursday and will earn $2 million if he is named to the major league roster this season.
If Rollins does not make the major league roster, I cannot for the life of me imagine Rollins will be accepting a spot on the minor league roster this summer. It would likely be much more likely Rollins either makes the club as an extra infielder and pinch runner (not a bad way to go, honestly, if not making the starting lineup) or skips out on the minor league deal and wait around for any other potential opportunity to play elsewhere in the league. Jimmy’s not getting back on minor league buses, not at this stage in his career. Of course, there is also the possibility this is the end of the road for our beloved shortstop, which would lead to the likely one-day contract so Rollins can retire as a Phillie.
Keep in mind the Phillies are scheduled to play a two-game set in Chicago against the White Sox on August 23 and 24. White White Sox come to Philadelphia for two more games in September on September 20 and 21.
