Continuing our series of looks into Badger recruiting we were able to sit down with 2014 DE target Conor Sheehy, who calls Milwaukee home and plays for powerhouse Milwaukee Marquette. He stands at 6’4 tall and weighs about 260lbs. As of right now he is not rated by the services that do those sorts of things, but that could be more of a product of not having ratings out yet on most 2014 prospects.
According to Sheehy he was offered on 6/26 after attending a Badgers camp earlier in the month. So, where do the Badgers stand in his recruitment?
Currently they are the only team with an official offer out for him, but he did tell us right now he’s looking at not only the home state Badgers, but Michigan and Michigan State as well. Those two schools have yet to offer him and with the communication period from coaches to players over it may be a bit before he receives any other offers.
“I’m pretty open in my recruiting process, but Wisconsin is defenitly going to be one of my top schools in my recruiting process,” Conor said. “I don’t want to make the decision too early.”
He describes his style of play fitting in well with what Wisconsin and a lot of the Big Ten do in terms of schemes on the line.
“I’m a bigger guy, I don’t like to dance around in the backfield. I like to hit guys,” he said.
Ben Strickland, Coach Partridge, and Coach Bielema have all been in contact with him, but Strickland is his main contact from Wisconsin.
Being a home state kid, getting an offer from Wisconsin is usually a dream come true and Sheehy was excited to say the least, stating, “I was very excited to receive the offer, being from Wisconsin. I always thought the offer would come a little bit later in my career, but having it come so early as a sophomore was a bit of a shock to me, [I] was excited.”
As for academics, even though he’s just entering his junior year in high school he seems to have an idea of what he wants. “I would like to go to a very good business school and Wisconsin has a very good one.”
One thing that has really changed in the recruiting world is how fast and how much sooner offers and decisions are made, so what is his time frame like?
“I would like to have my decision before the start of my senior season.”, said Sheehy in regards to making a decision.
As for the rest of the summer before starting football? He is going on an unofficial to Michigan and Michigan State at the end of the month (July 29th and 30th) and offers could be coming to him after those visits, so keep an eye out for this rising 2014 DE prospect as things could heat up for his services this fall.
