Obasih Updates Badgers Commitment After Cal Offer

ObasihAfter attending The Opening last weekend 2013 Wisconsin commit Chikwe Obasih received a new offer from Cal and he spoke to us about that offer and if it effects his commitment to the Badgers or not.

First things first, despite the offer from the Golden Bears Obasih told us he is a firm commitment to Wisconsin. “Right now I’m still fully committed to the Badgers,” said Obasih to us yesterday.

As for Cal? “It’s a great school, while I was out there at The Opening Scott Quessenberry and others were talking to me about how awesome the campus was.” he said.

He’s not sure if he will take an official visit this fall with his commitment to Wisconsin.

As for The Opening, he spoke highly of the event and told us that he was vocal about Wisconsin and was able to form a bond with fellow 2013 defensive line commit Darius Latham who was also at the event.

“It was a perfect place to start bonding,” Obasih said about the experience with Latham. “It was fun sharing a bond and hoping he won his reps. We got to throw up the W together as well.”

“It was an overall amazing experience. I had so much fun,” said Obasih about The Opening. “We got to learn from NFL players, which was amazing. We got to learn from Ndamukong Suh, who taught us some

Obasih also said that he spoke to 2014 OL Ross Pierschbacher and 2013 OL Scott Quessenberry about coming to Wisconsin for another visit at The Opening.

He is also still a vocal advocate with close friend and fellow Brookfield, WI native Alec James. “I’m just trying to nudge him a bit more, not trying to pressure him into a decision though.”

As for this season, Obasih mentioned his goal was to compete for a state championship and he believes having strength and conditioning coach (and former Badger RB) Brian Calhoun can only help this team and him personally grow.

On the field he’s hoping to get better and reading and reacting faster to plays so he’s not having to recover as much.

As for a personal goal he stated he’s wanted to go to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl since he was 10 years old and with a few spots still open he hopes to get one.
