Montee Ball continues to break records and earn awards and on Monday he was announced as the Big Ten’s Ameche-Dayne RB of the Year award winner. Joining Ball as a position award winner was TE Jacob Pedersen who earned the Kwalick-Clark TE of the Year Award. Those awards also came on the heels of Ball, Pedersen and five other teammates being named 1st team all-Big Ten by the coaches, media, or both.
Ball was an unanimous selection to the 1st team by the coaches and media and was joined as unanimous selections by fellow 1st teamers WR Jared Abbrederis and T Ricky Wagner. Also earning 1st team honors on offense were TE Jacob Pedersen (coaches) and C Travis Frederick (Media). Defensively it was a split vote at linebacker as Chris Borland was named to the coaches 1st team and Mike Taylor to the media’s 1st team.
They weren’t the only Badgers to earn honors though as guard Ryan Groy was named to the coaches 2nd team while cornerback Devin Smith was named 2nd team defensive back by the media.
Earning unanimous honoralbe mention nods were DT Beau Allen, DB Marcus Cromartie, DL David Gilbert, P Drew Meyer and DB Dezmen Southward.
LB Chris Borland, G Ryan Groy and TE Jacob Pedersen were honorable mention selections by the media while C Travis Frederick, DT Ethan Hemer, DB Devin Smith, and LB Mike Taylor were honorable mention from the coaches.
It’s hard to quibble with any of the selections at all for the Badgers, except for Borland and Taylor earning honorable mention status at all, that’s simply ridiculous no matter how deep the position was there is simply no way either of these guys aren’t good enough to be considered top six linebackers.
