It's only fitting that Brianna Decker, the senior captain of the Badgers Women's hockey team, capped off a memorable weekend by becoming the WCHA Offensive Player of the Week. It was a weekend Decker won't soon forget. For her 7 point performance on the weekend she earned the first offensive player of the week award for the Badgers this season. The only award winner outside of Decker this week has been goaltender Alex Risgby, who earned defensive player of the week twice already.
In Friday nights 6-0 shutout of St. Cloud State Decker netted two goals and an assist. Her 2nd goal was one for the ages as it was her 100th career goal. That's a feat that only two other players in Wisconsin history have accomplished in the Women's game. Decker joins Meghan Duggan and Hilary Knight in the exclusive 100 goal club. Not only is it a rare feat in Badger history, it's also a rare feat in NCAA history as she became just the 15th player to accomplish it.
Decker added 2 more goals and 2 more assists in a 6-3 win for the sweep of the Huskies. For her career Decker now has 216 points and should have no trouble catching Sara Bauer (218) for 3rd on that list. She would only be behind Duggan (238) and Knight (262) in the Badger history books. Decker is already 3rd in career goals and with four more this season will tile Duggan for 2nd place.
Wisconsin (10-4-2, 6-4-2 WCHA, 22pts), which is 4th in the WCHA standings will compete in the bitter Border Battle series this weekend as they head to Minneapolis to take on the undefeated and No. 1 ranked Gophers on Saturday and Sunday. Both games are 2pm start times.
