Remember when the much talked about rumor was Wisconsin playing Alabama and it falling through because the UW wanted it to be a home and home series? Well, so much for that, as TideSports.com (Alabama's Rivals site) is reporting that Bama and Wisconsin are set to tangle in the 2015 Cowboys Classic.
Hey, I'm all for stepping up the level of competition for the Badgers, it's painful sitting through seasons where the best opponents we face are the likes of Northern Illionios (2011, not this season's version), but this…. this is a STEP UP and maybe a step too far up, too fast for Wisconsin?
Yes, I know, if you want to be the best, beat the best…. But in 2015 we'll be in a new era of college football – the playoff era will be a season old and why not just take a decent level BCS opponent and then give yourselves the chance to take on the LSU's and Bama's of the world in those playoffs?
Not that I'm complaining, it's just an observation. Personally, I can't freaking wait to see this one take place… Of course as is the case with everything in college football these days, it's all subject to change so until 2015 actually rolls around and it's the end of August and Alabama is still on the schedule I won't be a true believer that this game will actually happen.
If this does end up happening, then it's time to buckle up the chin straps as we'll see the likes of Alabama and Virginia Tech in back to back seasons. At least we won't have to suffer through the who cares games and maybe, just maybe Wisconsin students will actually show enough interest to show up ON TIME for a football game for a change (I'm not holding my breath for that last one to happen).
