Badgers McCabe captains Team USA to Gold!

There's just something about the University of Wisconsin being in a position of authority for Team USA at the World Junior Championships. In 2013 Jake McCabe captained the squad as they defeated Sweden 3-1 to win the 3rd IIHF World Junior Championship's for the United States of America and the 3rd for a UW player or coach at the helm of the squad.

McCabe became the 2nd Badger to captain a gold medal winning side, joining Derek Stepan in 2010. Head Coach Mike Eaves also has an IIHF World Juniors gold medal as he coached the 2004 team to the championship.

Captain McCabe played well in defense in the gold medal match, but it was Rocco Grimaldi, the littlest guy on the ice, that came up the biggest for Team USA as he netted a pair of great goals, including a redirect for the game winner, on the way to the gold medal win.

Overall in the tournament McCabe had a good showing. He scored 3 goals and had 3 assists for 6 points, putting him tied for 3rd most points on the team. Nothing could've topped the start to his game in the semi-final against Canada where he netted the first two goals, including the eventual game winner, in the 1st period of Team USA's 5-1 route of their rivals to the north.

McCabe will rejoin his team at Wisconsin as they look to continue another hot streak next weekend against Mankato State.
