A 13 point, 5-9 shooting performance on Saturday earned Sam Dekker his first conference honors, as he was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week following his help in taking down the 12th ranked Illini on Saturday. He has rounded himself in to form over the past nine games, scoring in double figures in 6 of the last 9 games.
Dekker is the 1st Wisconsin freshman to earn the award since the award was debuted for the 2010-11 season, something that shouldn't surprise any Badger fan considering Ryan's take on Freshman playing a lot of minutes. He joins a list that includes names like Garry Harris, Nik Stauskas, Yogi Ferrell, and Mike Gessell to name a few.
Up next for Dekker and the Badgers is a date with the only other undefeated team in B1G play, the Indiana Hoosiers.
