Well, that didn't last long. 49 days ago the Badgers hired Jay Boulware to become the newest tight ends and special teams coach. Today he is no longer at Wisconsin, taking the same position with the Oklahoma Sooners, per an OU release.
"Jay owns an impressive track record as both a coach and recruiter," Stoops said via the release. "He possesses a wide range of coaching experience, competing in some of the nation's toughest conferences. He also has strong ties in the state of Texas, as well as recruiting relationships across the country that will serve us well at the University of Oklahoma. We enthusiastically welcome Jay back to his roots in the Big 12."
Of course the release makes zero mention of the fact that Boulware was most recently at Wisconsin, but whatever – minor details, right?
To say this leaves the Badgers in a bit of a bind is an understatement. Wisconsin opens up spring football camp next Saturday, leaving head coach Gary Andersen about a week to have someone in place if they want to start out with a full coaching staff in place.
Why did Boulware leave Wisconsin so quickly? Well he was born in Oklahoma City, OK and spent his youth in Irving, TX – so that should provide us all with a clue as to why. It's hard to blame a guy for wanting to be closer to home after all.
However, it's equally troubling that in a world where coaches constantly rail against recruits and administrations that don't show loyalty that Boulware uprooted and didn't leave up to the commitment he made to the Badgers just 49 days ago.
So, the coaching carousel spins again at the UW – where it will stop no one knows.
