MADISON, Wis. — Fourteenth-ranked and fourth-seeded Wisconsin men's hockey (17-12-7, 13-8-7 WCHA) begins the postseason on Friday with a best-of-three series against ninth-seeded Minnesota Duluth (14-17-5, 10-13-5 WCHA). The winner of the WCHA first-round playoff series advances to the 2013 WCHA Final Five, March 21-23 at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn.
Wisconsin skated at Minnesota Duluth back on Nov. 16-17, posting a 2-0 victory and a 2-2 tie against the Bulldogs.
The Badgers finished the WCHA regular-season last night with a 3-2 victory over No. 8 and WCHA co-champion St. Cloud State at the Coliseum.
Wisconsin earned 33 points to finish in a three-way tie for fourth place in the WCHA standings, but holds the tie break over Denver and Minnesota State for the fourth seed. The Badgers finished just four points behind first place and two points out of third place.
Wisconsin now plays host to a first-round WCHA playoff series for the first time since 2010 and looks to advance to its first WCHA Final Five since that season.
